Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education Witnesses MOU Signing Between The British University in Egypt and FISU to Establish the First FISU Master Programme in Sport Management in the Region

– The British University in Egypt has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International University Sports Federation (FISU) to introduce the FISU Master Programme in Sport Management to Africa and the Arab world for the first time. Under the agreement, the University will serve as FISU’s exclusive academic partner for the programme across the region, with the aim of developing a new generation of qualified leaders in the global sport management sector.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital in the presence of H.E. Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa. The agreement was signed by Professor Mohamed Loutfi MBE, President and Vice-Chancellor of The British University in Egypt, and Mr. Leonz Eder, President of FISU.
The University will design, deliver and award the degree under its own academic credentials, while FISU will provide the programme’s academic framework and strategic oversight, and leverage its global network to support student engagement, internships, and professional development opportunities.
The partnership supports Egypt’s national ambition to bolster the international profile of its higher education sector, expand global academic collaboration, and position the country as a regional hub for education, research, and innovation. It also reflects The British University in Egypt’s commitment to widening access to high-quality postgraduate education in fields of growing economic and strategic importance.
Commenting on the agreement, H.E. Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, noted, “What was signed today is not the introduction of a single postgraduate programme; this establishes a long-term strategic collaboration that will help develop the next generation of sports leaders and professionals in Egypt and the wider region. It creates new opportunities for students to gain the knowledge, practical skills and global perspectives required to lead sports organisations, events and facilities in line with international best practice. The programme speaks directly to our national commitment to close the gap between university education and the occupational realities graduates will enter, while supporting the internationalisation of Egyptian higher education through partnerships with leading global institutions. It also reinforces Egypt’s position as a regional hub for specialised sports education and training across Africa and the Arab World. We look forward to expanding our cooperation with FISU and The British University in Egypt through new academic pathways, joint research initiatives and the exchange of students, faculty and expertise, helping to advance sports education, innovation and research for the benefit of Egypt and the wider region.”
Professor Mohamed Loutfi MBE, President and Vice-Chancellor of The British University in Egypt, stated, “Developing a strong sport management ecosystem begins with developing the right talent. This partnership with FISU is about cultivating an entirely new ethos in sport management across the region. Merging academic excellence with global athletic standards ensures graduates have the means to innovate and redefine the industry. As the first and only university in Egypt and North Africa to hold accreditation from the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, we are proud to have been selected as FISU’s exclusive academic partner across Africa and the Arab world. This distinction reflects the confidence that leading international organisations place in our academic standards and our shared commitment to partnerships that deliver valuable educational impact.”
Mr. Leonz Eder, President of the International University Sports Federation, said, “FISU is delighted to formalise this partnership with The British University in Egypt, and to do so with the full support of the Ministry of Higher Education. The integration of education and sport is central to how we develop the capabilities of young people and prepare them for the future, and this programme gives that conviction a postgraduate home in the Arab World and Africa. The selection of The British University in Egypt as our regional academic partner reflects Egypt’s growing stature in international higher education. We look forward to deepening this collaboration, particularly as Egypt prepares to host the FISU World University Summer Games in 2031.”
H.E. Professor Ashraf Sobhi, former Minister of Youth and Sports and Senior Adviser to the President of The British University in Egypt for Youth and Sports, expressed, “From championships and competitions to the development of sport sciences curricula, the sustained support that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has extended to university sport has built the conditions for a partnership of this significance. This programme is precisely what Egypt’s sport sector needs: rigorous academics, experiential grounding, and direct responsive to the labour market. The calibre of professionals it produces will be highly capable of advancing research and innovation in sport management, and I have no doubt that The British University in Egypt is the right institution to deliver it.”

The agreement further strengthens The British University in Egypt’s growing portfolio of international partnerships and reinforces its position as a leading centre for postgraduate education serving Egypt and beyond.
