Kibrit | A Legacy of Resilience… A View of the Present

As we commemorate the glorious October Victory and mark World Space Week, the Egyptian Space Agency brings together national memory and the power of science, presenting two satellite images of the Kibrit area from different periods—a place where Egypt’s heroes wrote an unforgettable chapter of resilience.

Here, the soldiers of the 603rd Battalion, led by Ibrahim Abdel Tawab and his fellow fighters, demonstrated the extraordinary courage of the Egyptian soldier during the October War of 1973. They endured siege, fierce combat, and dwindling supplies, holding their ground… while Egypt’s flag bore witness to an unbroken resolve.

Here, soldiers stood firm to defend the land… today, we look from space to understand how

it has changed across generation

Through Earth observation data processor and analysis, the Egyptian Space Agency can track changes in land use and the built environment over time, transforming satellite imagery into maps and indicators that support planning, development

monitoring, and informed decision-maki

Behind every change we observe lies a question that shapes the future: How can we better understand our resources, manage them wisely, and guide development to serve people?

This is where the legacy of victory meets the responsibility to build. The sacrifices of our heroes safeguarded the land and opened new horizons for future generations. Science gives us the tools to build that future on knowledge, advancing quality of life and human dignity.

On the anniversary of the October Victory, we honour those who defended the land.
During World Space Week, we show how science helps shape its future.

A tribute to the heroes of Kibrit and to all who stood firm and sacrificed for Egypt.
Their courage lives on in our memory… asEgypt continues to build its future.
