Tutankhamun Gallery At The Egyptian Museum In Tahrir Closes From October 20 For Final Transfer Of Its Collection To The Grand Egyptian Museum

Tutankhamun Gallery the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir will be closed starting 20th of October to Complete the Transfer of its Artifacts to the Grand Egyptian MuseumIn preparation for the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) on November 1, 2025, the Tutankhamun Gallery at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, is to be closed starting October 20th.
This step comes as part of the final phase of transferring the Golden King’s remaining treasures to their new home at the GEM.For the first time in history, the complete collection of over 5,000 artifacts belonging to Tutankhamun will be displayed together in a single, purpose-built hall at the GEM, offering visitors a unique and comprehensive experience of one of the most celebrated figures in ancient Egyptian history
.Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, asserted that the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir will remain open to visitors during regular working hours, with the closure limited exclusively to the Tutankhamun Gallery to allow for the completion of packaging and transport.“Bringing the entire collection of Tutankhamun together under one roof for the first time is an extraordinary achievement in the history of archaeology and museums worldwide,” Dr. Khaled said. “Visitors from Egypt and around the world will have an unprecedented opportunity to explore the legacy of the young pharaoh through a display that reflects the richness and significance of his treasures.”Additionally, the Grand Egyptian Museum will be temporarily closed to visitors from October
15 to allow for organizational and logistical preparations ahead of its inauguration. The museum will reopen on November 4, 2025, coinciding with the 103rd anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb by Howard Carter in 1922.
