165 Outstanding Projects at the German University in Cairo’s Applied Sciences and Arts Exhibition Reflect Creativity and Bridge Education with the Labor Market

The German University in Cairo (GUC) launched the activities of the annual “End of Year Exhibition 2026” for students of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Arts. The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German University in Cairo and the German International University (GIU) in the New Administrative Capital, alongside Prof. Dr. Yasser Hegazy, President of the University, in the presence of Dr. Ehab Kamel Abu Al-Khair, Vice President of the University for Student Affairs and Prof. Sabine Müller, Dean of the Faculty, as well as a distinguished group of faculty members and specialists in the fields of design and applied arts

The exhibition reflected the university’s vision and educational philosophy, which combines academic creativity with practical application. It featured 165 outstanding projects by students from the Graphic Design, Product Design, and Media Design programs. The projects demonstrated an advanced level of creativity and the ability to utilize modern technology and Artificial Intelligence techniques in developing practical, implementable design solutions directly connected to both campus life and community needs.

The showcased projects included innovative designs for enhancing educational and public spaces both on and off campus, educational and interactive games for children and individuals with special needs, smart and sustainable furniture units, and community-oriented technological solutions such as solar-powered water recycling systems, flexible work units supporting collaborative learning environments, and intelligent medication distribution tracking systems for the elderly. In addition, several projects focused on branding, digital advertising, film, and animation, emphasizing sustainability, recycling concepts, and the promotion of handmade craft industries, reflecting students’ commitment to responsible design and connecting applied arts with societal and environmental needs.

During his tour of the exhibition, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour engaged in discussions with students and listened to detailed presentations about the different stages of implementing their projects. He praised the students’ intellectual and creative awareness, as well as their genuine ability to transform ideas into practical, actionable applications.

Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour emphasized that the exhibited projects represent a true translation of the educational philosophy adopted by the university since its establishment, which is based on empowering students to think creatively, innovate, and work with their hands to transform knowledge into tangible solutions that serve both people and society.

He added: “What we witness today through these remarkable projects confirms that GUC students possess exceptional capabilities and a forward-looking vision, not only in design and creativity, but also in understanding community needs and linking them with modern technology. Since the establishment of the university, we have been committed to making education a genuine, practical experience and transforming the university campus into a space for creativity, experimentation, and implementation. Therefore, we are proud that many of these projects were fully designed and executed by students themselves to serve both the university and society, reflecting the university’s philosophy of building a generation capable of innovation and shaping the future.”

He further stated that the university believes creative industries have become a fundamental pillar of economic and social development, and that supporting students and transforming their ideas into applicable models represents a genuine investment in the potential of Egyptian youth and their ability to compete globally.

For his part, Prof. Dr. Yasser Hegazy affirmed that the exhibition reflects the university’s success in providing a modern educational model that integrates academic knowledge, practical application, and advanced technology. He noted that integrating Artificial Intelligence into the educational process has become a key component in preparing students for future careers, and that the exhibited projects demonstrate students’ ability to develop innovative solutions addressing societal needs and contemporary challenges.

In the same context, Prof. Sabine Müller, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Arts, explained that the exhibition is the result of significant academic effort and continuous collaboration between students and faculty members throughout the year, emphasizing that the exceptional quality of the projects reflects the dedication and hard work invested within the faculty.

She stated: “What we see today in these outstanding projects clearly reflects the tremendous effort made by students under the supervision of faculty members, who guided and academically and artistically supported them to achieve this professional level. Within the faculty, we have worked to provide an educational environment that encourages research, experimentation, and openness to the latest technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence tools and digital design techniques, which is clearly evident in the quality and diversity of the exhibited projects.”

She added: “We are proud of what our students have achieved this year and of their ability to present ideas that combine innovation, human value, and sustainability while keeping pace with the rapid global developments in the fields of design and creative industries.”
