Champions Who Embody Determination… Helwan University Leads the Sports Festival for Students of Determination
In a new athletic achievement that reaffirms Helwan University’s leadership in supporting and empowering its students of determination, the university’s champions won first place at the Sports Festival for Students with Special Needs, hosted by Benha University from August 31 to September 3, 2025.
The event witnessed fierce competition among various Egyptian universities and showcased the perseverance, determination, and competitive spirit of all participating students.
This remarkable victory took place under the patronage of Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of Helwan University, and Dr. Hossam Refai, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, with the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Oliq, University President’s Advisor for Student Activities. The result reflects the university’s unwavering commitment to its students with special needs and its deep belief in their ability to excel and achieve greatness.
The physical disability football team won first place and the gold medal, with the following students representing the university:
Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamed, Mohamed Hammouda, Mohamed Ramadan, Abdelrahman Ahmed, Khaled Rabie, and Mohamed Mahmoud.In individual events:
Mahmoud Shafik earned the gold medal in table tennis (short stature category).
Mikareous Rizk secured gold in table tennis (lower limb disability category)
.Asmaa El-Shafie won gold in the “Ideal Female Student” competition.
Mohamed Abdel Aziz claimed gold in the 100m sprint (short stature category).
Maryam Nabil secured gold in the 100m sprint (intellectual disability category)
.Helwan University students also won several silver medals:Youssef Gamal took second place in shot put (non-disabled category)
.Mahmoud Mohamed won silver in weightlifting (visual impairment category).
Mohamed Ali earned silver in the “Ideal Male Student” competition.
The achievements didn’t stop there, as the university’s champions also secured a number of bronze medals:
Youssef Gamal (3rd place, 100m sprint – non-disabled category)
Ahmed Moamen (100m sprint – intellectual disability)
Abdelrahman Ramadan (weightlifting – hearing impairment)
Youssef Mohamed (weightlifting – physical disability)
Hager Hussein (shot put – short stature)
Maryam Nabil (shot put – intellectual disability)
Asmaa Khodr (100m sprint – non-disabled category)
Shahd Abdel Moiz (weightlifting – visual impairment)
The participation of Helwan University’s student delegation was held under the general supervision of Major General Mohamed Abu Shaqa, University Secretary-General, and Mr. Hesham Rafaat, Assistant Secretary-General for Education and Student Affairs.
Moreover, continuous support and close monitoring were provided by the General Administration of Youth Welfare, led by Ms. Nashwa Ali, General Director, and Captain Ayman Abdel Aziz, Director of Sports Activities.
The university extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to Captain Mohamed El-Tanahy, Ms. Rehab El-Sayed, Captain Amr Galal, and Mr. Ahmed El-Nahhal, the university’s coordinator for students of determination in recognition of their vital role in training and preparing the students for their moment of victory.
They constituted the technical and administrative staff who supervised the athletes during the championship.
With this historic triumph, Helwan University once again proves itself to be a university of achievements and champions—an institution that knows how to make a difference and present its students as shining role models in every arena.
