A joint Egyptian-German archaeological mission has uncovered the burial chamber of a woman named “Edi,” the daughter of Jifai-Hapi, the governor of Asyut during the reign of King Senusret I.

The discovery was made during excavation work in her father’s tomb. The burial chamber contains two intricately painted wooden coffins, along with canopic jars and wooden statues.

Preliminary studies suggest that Edi died before the age of 40 and suffered from a congenital foot defect.

Further excavations and studies of the discovered remains will continue, aiming to shed more light on the lives of the

governor and his daughter.
